							      	<title>Blog ID #453: The abandoned cat</title>
	    							  <link>http://www.rockysfavoritesonline.com/blog356988.html#453</link>
<description>It was August of this year someoneabandoned a cat in our neighborhood. She was small and very cute. She would go house to house looking for food and attention, lots of attention. I noticed her next door quite often to play with their two small boys. She would run aroung the yard after them. It was great fun for both the boys and the cat. They named her Charlie. She reminded them of a friend that has a cat that looks just like her and its name was Charlie.I'd see her waiting for the bus with another neighbors first grader. I thought they might adopt it sence their dog has cancer and won't be here much longer. One neighbor has a two year old girl that adores the cat. They would keep in the garage some nights. They would give her milk and anything that they had leftover. They have an elderly dog. So I was hoping they might take her in. But noone was making a move to take her into their homes. I suggested to one neighbor to make her a house in their back yard for shelter for the upcoming window. I suggested to another neighbor to put up cardboard aroung his little girts play yard equipment for shelter for Charlie. But noone did anything but feed her. I would feed her everyday and she would take a nap on the picnic table on our deck. She usually slept in the shrubs aroung our house. One night a very large black tabby attacked her on our deck. It was horible I heard a thump and alot of screaching and the cat hair was flying all over the place. So I picked up Charlies water dish and threw it at the black cat and then they separated and both ran a different direction. I was so worried about Charlies safty. I got a flash light and looked all over the yard for her but I could not find her. I worried all night that the big cat had really seriously hurt her or worse yet she had died. The next day I looked all over for her. I asked all of the neighbors if they had seen Charlie. No one had seen her. Later that day when I came home from shopping, there she was sunning herself on my front porch. I felt so relieved. She was hurt but not seriously. Later that day she came running towards me followed by a dog that was after her. I said thats it! I put her in my garage and went next door and asked my neighbor for some cat liter. I got a box and made her a litter box. I fed her and let her stay in our heated garage. My husband told me I could keep her if I wanted to. The only other alternative I had was the animal shelter. I have been without a pet for nine years when my husband lost his dog to old age. He was 15 years old. He said he never wanted togo through the hurt of loosing another best friend again, so we nevergot another dog.But Charlie is not a dog she is a cat. So that is ok.
We have never had a cat before and didn't know the first thing about a cats habits or behavior. Now the fun of owning a cat begins.
My first question is why do cats sleep so much?At first I thougjt it was because the first thing we did was take it to a vet to get its shots. So I thought that was why. Then a week later we tookCharlie back to a vet and got her spad and front claws removed. So I thought that was why she sleptso much. Ten days later we took her back to have her stitches removed. So I thought that was why she still slept all the time. Now it has been a month ago and still it seems all she does is sleep and sleep and sleep. Why? </description>
